Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy temple is elegantly situated in Ramanathapuram Tamil Nadu, on an island called Rameswaram, shaped like a Conch in the hands of Lord Thirumal and is spread over an area of about 15 acres. This temple is related to the history of the Ramayana time.
തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടിലെ രാമനാഥപുരത്താണ് അരുൾമിഗു രാമനാഥസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം, രാമേശ്വരം എന്ന ദ്വീപിൽ, തിരുമാലിന്റെ കൈകളിലെ ശംഖിന്റെ ആകൃതിയിലുള്ളതും ഏകദേശം 15 ഏക്കർ വിസ്തൃതിയിൽ പരന്നുകിടക്കുന്നതുമായ ക്ഷേത്രം. രാമായണ കാലത്തെ ചരിത്രവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടതാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം.
The Puranas say that as advised by sage Agasthiya, Sri Rama arrived here along with Sita and Lakshmana and consecrated and worshipped the Sivalinga to expiate the sin of Brahmahatya he got by killing Ravana. It is said that Sri Rama fixed an auspicious time for installation and sent Anjaneya to Mount Kailas to bring a Shivalinga.
അഗസ്ത്യ മുനിയുടെ ഉപദേശപ്രകാരം ശ്രീരാമൻ സീതയ്ക്കും ലക്ഷ്മണനുമൊപ്പം ഇവിടെയെത്തി രാവണനെ വധിച്ചതിലൂടെ ലഭിച്ച ബ്രഹ്മഹത്യയുടെ പാപം പരിഹരിക്കാൻ ശിവലിംഗ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തി പൂജിച്ചതായി പുരാണങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നു. ശ്രീരാമൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയ്ക്ക് ഒരു ശുഭസമയം നിശ്ചയിച്ചുവെന്നും ശിവലിംഗം കൊണ്ടുവരാൻ ആഞ്ജനേയനെ കൈലാസ് പർവതത്തിലേക്ക് അയച്ചതായും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.
As Anjaneya could not return in time, Maa Sita herself made a Shivalinga of sand and worship was over when Anjaneya(Hanuman Swamy) returned with a Lingam from far off Mount Kailas.
കൃത്യസമയത്ത് ആഞ്ജനേയൻ മടങ്ങിവരാൻ കഴിയാത്തതിനാൽ, മാ സീത സ്വയം മണൽ കൊണ്ട് ഒരു ശിവലിംഗം ഉണ്ടാക്കി. കൈലാസ് പർവതത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ആഞ്ജനേയൻ (ഹനുമാൻ സ്വാമി) ലിംഗവുമായി മടങ്ങിയെത്തിയപ്പോൾ ആരാധന അവസാനിച്ചു.
Anjaneya was enraged and tried in vain to remove the consecrated Shivalinga made of sand. To pacify Anjaneya, Rama also consecrated Anjaneyas Sivalinga (Visvalingam) by the side of Shivalinga made of sand and ordered that all the pujas should first be performed for Visvalingam brought by Anjaneya. In this temple, the first pooja is performed for this Lord Visvanathar. As its very name implies, Rameswaram is the holy place of Lord Rameswara, i.e., Eswara consecrated by Sri Rama.
ആഞ്ജനേയൻ കോപാകുലനായി, മണൽ കൊണ്ട് നിർമ്മിച്ച പ്രതിഷ്ഠാ ശിവലിംഗം നീക്കം ചെയ്യാൻ വൃഥാ ശ്രമിച്ചു. ആഞ്ജനേയനെ സമാധാനിപ്പിക്കാൻ, രാമൻ ശിവലിംഗത്തിന്റെ അരികിൽ ആഞ്ജനേയ ശിവലിംഗവും (വിശ്വലിംഗം) പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു, എല്ലാ പൂജകളും ആദ്യം ആഞ്ജനേയൻ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന വിശ്വലിംഗത്തിന് നടത്തണമെന്ന് ഉത്തരവിട്ടു. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ആദ്യ പൂജ നടത്തുന്നത് ഈ വിശ്വനാഥനാണ്. അതിന്റെ പേര് സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് പോലെ, രാമേശ്വരം ശ്രീരാമനാൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ട ഈശ്വര ഭഗവാന്റെ പുണ്യസ്ഥലമാണ്
